Your Medicare Options

Original Medicare

Original Medicare

Original Medicare

  • Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B - Medicare Insurance.
  • You are able to join a separate Medicare drug plan to get Medicare drug coverage - Part D Coverage.
  • To cover a portion of your out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare - your 20% coinsurance, you can choose to buy a supplemental plan.
  • You can also add Supplemental coverage - Includes Medicare Supplement Insurance also known as Medigap. Or, you can use coverage from a current or former employer, union, or Medicaid.

Medicare Advantage

Original Medicare

Original Medicare

  • Medicare Advantage is  a Medicare approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare for your health and drug coverage for your health and prescription coverage. These combines plans include Part A, B, and most cases Part D.
  • Most often, you can only use doctors who are in the plan's network.
  • Generally, you may need to obtain an approval from your plan before it covers certain prescriptions or services.
  • Plans may vary in costs than Original Medicare. Additional premiums may apply.
  • Plans offer additional benefits that Orignal Medicare does not cover. Such as, dental, hearing, and vision. Most plans also include Part D.

When can I make changes to my coverage?

You can enroll, switch, withdraw or make changes to your Medicare health or drug plan coverage during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 - December 7). Your plan coverage starts on January 1st if you chose a plan and the enrollment request is received no later than December 7. There are other times when you can enroll, switch, withdraw or make changes to your Medicare health plan coverage or drug plan subject to a special enrollment period.

How can I get help paying Medicare costs?

If you are struggling with your prescription costs, Extra Help is a Medicare program to help people with limited income to help pay Part D premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and other costs. Call us for assistance.

How do I qualify for Medicaid

To qualify for Medicaid, you must be a resident of that state. Generally, you must meet your state's rules for your income and resources. You may be eligible for Medicaid if you have limited income and you are 65 or older, a child under 19, pregnant, living with a disability, and a parent or adult caring for a child. You can call us for assistance.

Can I have both Medicare and Medicaid?

It's possible to have both Medicare and Medicaid if you qualify. People who have Medicare and full Medicaid coverage are dual eligible. Medicare pays first and Medicaid pays last, after Medicare and any other health insurance you have. If you are dual eligible, Medicare covers your prescription drugs costs instead of Medicaid. Medicaid may still cover some drugs that Medicare does not cover.
